There was the place at one end of the
room with a hanging kabriugno? and
a large bronze vase filled with
bridle erata? spyrea? and orange
marigolds standing on a wooden stand
made out of the root of some tree.
All curly cue but beautifully polished
and finished. There were other flowers
in the place to the right and Petes
sketch was hanging between the two
recessed places. There was also an
oil portrait of some priest, painted very
well in Academic Manner 1907 by
Saito. Otherwise there was nothing in
the room but there silk cushions for
us and the brasier for the boiling
water. A beautiful bronze one. The
water in the tap already steaming A
cover on top. We hadn't realized that
it was to be the Tea Ceremony.

It really was one of the most interesting
things I have ever taken part in. They
were very nice about it and realized
we didn't know how to do every
thing the right way and so tried
to show us. They also remembered our
legs, and suggested we sit any how
and were so smiling and pleasant.
