{centre} 15 We spent most of Thursday talking and I met dozens of Pete's friends, a lot of the Hawaiian Beach boys and the staff at the Royal Hawaiian and we walked around a bit that evening we went to a concert at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, held outside and it was too lovely, a full mooon and the ocean for a setting. They sang and danced Hulas and I did enjoy it. We've been over twice since to hear a trio play and sing.

Friday we went downtown to see about a car. They have a Jitney system, sort of taxis that go along certain streets and you can go anywhere they go for 10 cents and they pick you up & set you down anywhere and are quick and very convenient. You may be the only passengers, or you may be 1 of five

{centre} 16 We arranged to get an open Ford and they loaned us another one until they had gone over the engine again, and we only got ours today. We also spent Friday unpacking and rearranging things.

Saturday we went downtown and saw the Lurline off which was fun and did a few errands and bin the afternoon dressed in our bathing suits and went to the other side of the island both to look and to bathe. However it was overcast and instead we bought a bunch of eleven bananas for 10 cents and ate all but three. It was a beautiful drive over what is known as "The Pali." You climb from Honolulu about 1200 feet through some city and lovely residential districts and woods and suddenly came to the edge of a 750 foot precipice

{centre} 17 {Moana hotel logo} and look out over the windward side of the island (A ridge of mountains runs across the island) It is the most beautiful view and with some rain clouds there were peculiar effects and we saw a good many rainbows before we got back. The roock formations are rather weird and queer being lava rock, but the slopes are nice, and the sea is lovely being deep blue in the deep water and even where the bottom is sandy. Then the fields of sugar cane are a beautiful green.

That evening we called on the Fulshers and told stories about

{centre} 18 Banff all evening. Mrs. Fulsher had some good ones to tell about the old days there.

Sunday we spent the morning on the beach and in the afternoon went to see Helen Clifford who is here at a little private Inn. It rained off and on, hard, so it was a good way to spend the afternoon. The last time we saw her was after she was skiing with the Minneapolis crowd at Skoki and then we saw her down at the dock the other day.

Last night we had cocktails with Miss James who was the head of the Secretaries at the Conference in Banff and then we ate together in the main dining room where there was a concert during dinner. More Hawaiians - They were in fine form and put all theirhearts into the singing. In fact they were having such

{centre} 19 fun they sang thirty-five minutes over time.

Today we had a long swim while I got some nice color gradually and then this afternoon went down to see about the car & tried it out. Tomorrow we get our lunch & go off for the day painting and maybe we'll get a swim in too.

This is quite a letter, but I'm afraid there won't be any boats to the mainland for a week so don't mind if the mail is irregular. Some boats evidently don't carry mail or something.

Gooodbye for now and loads of love to all and even more to you. Catharine

P.S. I wonder did you make your visit to Gorham.
