{Top centre: "6"} two very nice ladies (who lived in Oakland and had been visiting in Dallas) and the older ones husband, asked if I was alone and would like to walk. We strolled about the town for some time and they were very nice and gave you the feeling of being old friends. When we got back to the station we found two friends of theirs a Mr and Mrs Baker going on the same train, and they were friendly too. We all sat until the train left on the steps of the station with Palm trees

This morning we were up at six all of us and then about five minutes before we got in I went out onto the platform to get my coat which the Porter had put there & suddenly there was a tremendous jerk & stop and I was catapulted sprawling

We had run into an open switch or something and were there half an hour or more. every once and a while thenbacking or moving a little. It landed us at the Ferry in time to catch the most crowded ferry of the day (so someone said) and no breakfast as yet. decided to get a cup of coffee at least, which I did by standing behind someone at the[bar crossed out] counter until he had to be trough and then having the same thing done to me!

Dearest Mother,

That was a very hurried scribble I got off to you this morning and I didn't have a chance to read it over. I hated to keep the girl waiting. She was very friendly and trapsed all over the boat with me, and we had great fun watching the people come aboard and remarking on clothes etc and trying to guess who were the ones going and who the friends saying goodbye. Its usually the most important
