Travel Letters: Hawaii, 1933

{Top centre: "7"} And now for the boat. It is without a doubt the nicest most attractive boat I've ever seen. The Duchess boats are nice but of courrse this is so new. Everything is in very good taste and very simple. So far I am alone in a tremendous stateroom. It is about the size of the sleeping porch in Concord or twice Jeans room. The wall are a delicate light green and the two beds, one on either side of bamboo with light green covers. The dresser is quite long between the beds with lots of drawers and cupboards most conveniently planned and even a shelf

{Top centre: "8"} you can pull out beside the bed. The dresser is also pale green with hand painted flowers, wreaths & festoons, not overdone but enough to give it a touch of color. on either side of the mirror are two lamps with most attractive shades - a large white lotus flower on them. The floor is about the shade of the greenish blue linoleum Kitty & Russ picked and then a soft rug on top. There are two large portholes and two ventilators, and its so airy you hardly would believe it. There is a private toilet with its own porthole and a green mother of pearl seat.

{Top centre: "9"} I forgot to mention the large wash stand opposite the bureau or dressing table, with medicine closet and green tumblers and all. Then their are two chairs and a stool thing and a folding card table that doesn't jiggle. Two large closets with a dozen hangers each and even a little book case. Doesn't that sound nice. All the passage ways have light blue & green linoleum or that new stuff and it is so fresh and clean smelling.

{Top centre: "10"} The other rooms would be hard to describe. The writing room has a peacock blue rug and murals in pastel shades of the Islands on the walls. and ivory colored furniture. most pleasing. The library which is a long narrow room on the other side corresponding to this is in light pine panelling, blue leather chairs, books and then originals of Dawsons watercolors of ships. They have three fine paintings in the hall, and some fine sporting prints in the smoking room. There is a gold {?} which is rather dressy and then a really

{Top centre: "11"} nice Verandah Cafe place with birds singing. The dining saloon is also in light greenish gray. very simple and nice to look at. I wish you could see it.

Its time I went down and dressed for dinner now. I will mail this on the boat & it should go in Los Angeles. Remember don't expect to hear for two week from the time you get this.
