[Right side] S.S. Lurline [Right side] Wed. Nov.1, 1933 Dearest Mother,

Here it is the last day on board and I feel as if I had just gotten on, even if I am so anxious to get there, the time has flown. I'm glad I embarked at San Francisco for it was much the easiest. from Los Angeles it is a 25 mile ride by electric train and not easy unless you hit the special train.

Your air mail letter arrived the morning after we left which was fun. I suppose they

hadn't had time to sort the mail before that, and it certainly was nice to hear. Don't bbe sorry you sent the books for I loved them and they were just the right kind for ship board. I read the "Six Mrs? Gwens?" and then the "Water Gypsies" and now as soon as I get "East Wind, West Wind" from the second person I have loaned it to I shall read that. I was crazy about "Water Gypsies" and it was so amusing, all the little things. the "Six Mrs? Gwens?" was interesting but I was disappointed in the conversation all the characters talked alike. I think I'll mail them back to Barbara to keep for me. for I liked them too much to throw away.

{Top centre:"3"} I imagine you three are having fun watching the house growdo let me know how it comes along - but of course you will.

We haven't had what one would call really rough weather, but it has been rough enough to put most people in bed, and gave me that feeling of uncertainty between the tummy and the throat. The funny part is that the dining salon is the best place to be on the ship. It is evidently amidships and no portholes to see the sky line tip about. It is on E. deck, and is so ventilated that it is always 72ΒΊ and there is no oder of cooking. These new

{Top centre: "4"} ventilating systems are surely wonderful. My cabin gets almost too cool.

ur table is lots of fun, the Doctor has been on these boats for years and on the Atlantic too. then there is Mr & Mrs Bowman in the advertising business. she has been ill and notices every pain & ache and doesn't sleep well etc. came originally from Lexington Kentucky, but is lots of fun even if she is rather spoilt by a much too kind a husband. Then a Mr West who is only at the table occasionally and lives in Honolulu, and then Mrs Murr who is the sister of the man who owns Jays and iolea's?

{Top centre: "5"} daughter has always done and still does the silouettes for their advertising. She really is amusing, has never travelled alone before and loves to see everything, but she does grow rather tiresome she talks so much, and my cabin being near hers and she being lame just now with a sprained ankle, I've been with her a good deal. However its nice having someone to go to things with. I've met several very nice people, a Mr & Mrs Mitchell from Indiana who are awfully pleasant, a Mrs. Robbins who lives on a sugar plantation.
