[centre] 4. I think I hear Pete coming with the car for me, and we are going downtown now to mail this. I'll write soon all about everything.

Every time I am in a place that is lovely I always wish you could be here too.

Pete sends his love and says to thank you for letting me come over here - Loads of love Catharine

P.S. Our address here will be Moana Hotel Honolulu T.H. and they will always see that it is sent to us wherever we are.

Moana Seaside Hotel letterhead as previous Honolulu Mon. Nov.6,1933

Dearest Mother, I haven't even attempted to write you for there has been so much to see and do ever since I arrived. But the next mail goes day after tomorrow ahd there doesn't seem to be another until the "Lurline" on the 17th so you will have a nine day wait between this letter and the next. Then there are several boats in a row.

Everything is as nice or nicer than the first day I arrived and I know we will love it and

[centre] 2 be like new people by the time we leave, but to start at the beginning.

I woke Thursday morning at 6.15 and immediately stuck my head way out the porthole, to see the Island of Oahu, which was only about 10 miles away and looked pretty high and mountainous. I was all packed and it didn't take me long to dress. breakfast was to be at 7.30 but I couldn't wait until then and went in at 7.15 to find everyone eating for they could start at seven. Needless to say I was pretty excited and so afraid I wouldn't be on deck to see the Tug come out which Pete was to be on. However it didn't come out until wew were almost in the harbor and I had a chance to see Diamond Head to the hotels and

[centre] 3 shore line as we sailed by. It got pretty exciting when the tug finally came alongside and all the welcomers clambered up the ladder and in the side. Pete was third with one arm covered with Leis. They were too lovely, one of pink carnations, just the flower part or petals strung together, two of ginger flowers which are the small magnolia blossoms, only deep yellow shading from the center to white on the edges, they were strung with pink (tiny) carnations in between. Then another lavendar colored lie {sic} that made a design like weaving, but best of all a whole lie {sic} of white gardenias, not as large as the gardenias at home and a different shape but they smelt very strongly of gardenia smell.

{centre} 4 This particular lie {sic} lasted with a pleasant fragrance for over two days and the room was full of the oder {sic}. Kitty would love it. The Leis are long enough to hang to your waist and are from an inch to three inches thick. Its such a nice way to welcome people and its the thing to do the wear them the first day. We were quite a while getting tied up, and its such a lovely pier - cement, with an open paizza {sic} sort of place all along the top with a roof over it. Hanging baskets of ferns and the Hawaiian band playing a welcome and hundreds of people waving. Its really a lovely sight.

Pete Fulsher {the correct spelling may be Fulcher} (a girl who used to live in Banff but now lives here) was down and put another lie {sic} around
