wild strawberries. Camped by White Goat. All went swimming in [White?] goat where little stream came in. Wearing the mocassins I bought for three dollars from Gussie Beaver but they smell terribly Very hot + dusty all day. Venison for dinner was delicious. Did stunts with pole after dinner + Madelaine stood on her head. Bed at 11 sleeping out for first time under pine tree. Slept well. Woke early + put head of bed over me +

the next thing I heard was "hot water" [dash] Thurs 16. Hot cakes for breakfast (called before 7) Riding Brownie who I find I dont like. Rough + stumbles + has a mouth of cast iron. a pack horse's soul + all [ seems?] donkey or mule but the first 10 inches of her tail. Lunched on Corral Creek where there was little shade. Lay under the bushes. Hot + dusty. Corral Creek is where we had lunch

last year the day we came down the White Goat Trail very faint + wriggley going up a hill, only to come down. Ride after Jim going up hill to above timber line. Spring of wawa there + we rest ten minutes till the pack is in sight. Jim is blazing the trail. Go down hill + cross creek to east side to camp. Early summer. Wash below camp. Lost my watch-wheel pin, also lens in camera finder. Went back after supper + found lens. Pin gone

cocoa + biscuits at 9 Talk with Marguerite (..ickle ...ty?) by fire about jobs + Girl Scouts. Bed. everyone sleeping out (altho?) Bill. Tent is up. Fri 17. Eating tent is not up + we are eating outside which is very nice when the sun is [o?]ut too hot [dash] Trail goes up Corral Creek. crossing several [times?] Took a picture looking up stream with horses on trail to left. whom I like very much. His slow but easy gait + the most sure footed I've ever had out here If I have a stick in my hand he goes along very well. Lunch on creek where vally divides [dash] Stay there two hours while Jim + Frank hunt the trail. Go up valley to left. Trail vague + disappears at times Finally come up to pass mountains all around and animal trails all around on the shale
