Lillian Gest: Journal, 1930-1931

Sunday - July 6 - 1930. Arrived Geneva at 8 am. Hotel Beau Rivage - two lovely communicating rooms overlooking Quai du Mont Blanc. [F]ountain playing only on Sunday. Rest. Dad went to English church. Walk in evening over bridge over Rhone. Monday July 7- 1930 - Walk around little park near hotel. I walked along Quai [&] visited Parc Mon Repos - delightful place with lovely trees {carat:'especially yews'} + birds. Afternoon w. Ma + Dad back to Repos in [f.ac..e], to Parc de la Perle, Jardin Botanique, + Labor Institute of League of Nations. Tuesday - [fracie] around town visiting places of interest - including Calvin's {carat:'(Auditoire)'} church + Rudoepl[..] Topffer statue ([M].P.G has Journeys in [z]ig - [z]ag) Bad cold developed yesterday and we loafed rest of day.

{underline} Wednesday July 9. 1930. Went to office of American Com. of The League of Nations Assm. back of Kursaal. -Then to International Labor Institute where we were shown through by Miss Adeline Taylor, sister of Harriet Taylor Mauck - [?] a [S..ith] girl + in research work in wash Branch of I.L.O. In afternoon to the League of Nations hdqts - where we were lectured to by Hillsdale College, [much.] Prof. W. H. Roberts. Then to Cathedral where mother + I climbed 150 steps uptown for view of city - Then to Monument to Servettes + to picture? of aire (glacier water from Chamunix) + Rhone - all in taxi. Thursday July 10 - 1930 - In aft. drove to Chateau de Monetier between two Mt. Saleves + then around Mt Saleve.

Friday July 11-1930 auto from geneva to grindelwald through lausanne, above V every to Bille, Chateau d'Oex (where we lunched at Hotel du Parc)

& their straight descent on awall path. M.S. arrived early aft. Shopped for shoes for her - weather still bad. Sunday July 13 - Called at 6:30 & breakfast at 7:10 am in order to go to Jnugfrau joch for ski jumping Weather bad & cancel trip. To English church 10:30 am but so cold stayed only short time. Liked inscription over chausil "ye ice & snow, praise ye the Lord" Monday - July 14 Good day & Mother, Dad & I drove in fracie

Perfect day. Marg. off early for Burg + then went to [Fauthron?] gorgeous views + saw fox. I climbed up hill past Victoria Platy + towards [[?]]. sat in summer house + watched valley + Nito? with glasses. Mother and Father in [[?]] to lower glacier + in ice grotto, + back by words to station. In aft. drove to [[?]]. Saw Edw, [Fe?] on street left glasses at [[St......]] optician to be cleaned (my old pain) + dressed to be cleaned at Embuli(?)? then to Lauterbrunnen Staubbach Falls + Trümmelbach Falls (up in lift + into gorge where torent of water passes) gorgeous views of [[?]] back down + back in auto (Parkard) with top back.

[[underline]] Thursday July 17- [[/underline]] Clouds every where but cleared slowly during [[?]]. May. had shoes made at Shoemaker bef. Bear Hotel + English church. Dad + I to 10
