They saw him near Bear Creek. Tea + a pleasant talk Horses eat salt at cabing + have a great time with it. Camp just beyond flat. Caroline + Jim ride off to find trail + glacier. take gun along. having a bad headache.. Alfred + Miller come to dinner. C.H. + Jim com in afterwards. no luck but trail tomorrow is gorge {hyphenated word: 'gorgeous'} ous. Thunderstorm comes up + all sleep in. glacier of three Phila men. Higgins, [S?]ibson + Felix [dash] of Cynwyd + Lansdowne. Arnold + Ernie with them 4 men + 20 horses. Camp on other side of river. Walk down to canyon below camp [dash] natural bridge there. Climb hill to find lake which we saw from hill but it is on the other side of river. bathe in stream near [camp?] on. after dinner read "The Smiths" with Florence till the men came over river Talk + have cocoa. Sleep in {sic: 'in'} little tepee. Tues 11. Start for glacier 9:30 Go up on right crossing river first. Up side of mor {hyphenated word: 'moraine'} aine leading horses over rough trail of loose stones + boulders. Pack train follows [dash] the men leading each horse. Go on to glacier, horses slipping + sliding + often falling to knees. Gravel over ice is very slippery. Go off

ice + up moraine again Then on to ice once more [dash] Crossing [about?} to avoid crevasses. Lunch on medial moraine while Jim skips around to find best way across. Quite cold + wear mack {hyphenated word: 'mackinaw'} inaw. Take many pictures Come off at Lake where the water is much lower than last year. Awful mud + some of the horses go in deep. Ride to camp with pack. Charlie walks. [Bonar?] pretty tired [dash] Camp same as last year. Swim below in creek [dash] late

for supper [dash] no one hearing call. moose delicious + every thing else fine. Played bridge in big tepee. (carried Caroline up the hill on mattress) Caty + I dressed up. Cocoa + bed. Wed 12 Very smoky + Castle {hyphenated word: 'Castleguard'} guard trip is off. We got up late. Ellen + Marg are off for the day. Hope + I wait for breakfast. Hot cakes were delicious. gushing out + we cant go in far although we wade up to our knees. Bring ice up + make ice cream for supper. Caty [Tuny?], Hope + I churn it a little. Moose also. We got it from the Simpson Party. Play London Bridge + other foolish games by fire. Men are trying to find game. Thurs 13. Still smoky + we hope for rain which did chase every one inside last night but didnt last. Caves in morning + go quite far in. Caroline

+ I went again in aft. to see water start. Waited 15 minutes + then a roar, for a few seconds later, cold air coming from the cave + at 2:30 it came with a rush. Caroline suggests a hunting trip in October with Jim. Return to camp + shoot. I'm ahead but Ellen rapidly catching up. Tug of war, rope stunts afterwards. Plan trip to Sask. gl. after supper but rain threatends + it is called off. Read

with Florence. then in tepee playing games. Sleep beautifully. Fri. 14. Jim makes fire in tepee. Breakfast at 9 or after Bridge in big tepee + spend whole morning there with fire. Rain all morning but the smoke is clearing up Read after lunch with Florence + finish "The Smiths" It is interesting as it is a picture of life we experience in many places, but the whole story lacks focus. Walk up hill to right of C.g.

with Barbara + get view of two glaciers. one between us + Bryce, + other coming into it to right of first. Ellen + Marg out too. Bridge after dinner. All in big tepee.
