{Top centre: "11"} boat silently slipping away from the Pier. It was 10 at night & the lights were lovely - There were quite a few ships in the harbor and they all put spot lights on their colored smokestacks and give no idea how pretty the boats are now lighted at night.

There must be 30 children in all on this boat. mostly Navy families going out.

I will mail this on the boat to go back with it. It seens funny to think Im almost there. Maybe you and Frances should pick up and take a cruise. Its lots of fun

MOANA SEASIDE HOTEL AND BUNGLAOWS ROYAL HAWAIIAN HOTEL Logo: MOANA HOTEL, HONOLULU CABLE ADDRESS "MOANA" Saturday Nov.4,1933

Dear Mother, The "Lurline" sails at noon today and I hope to get this on it so you will know I'm here. I should have written you before but we've been so busy talking and catching up on things I just haven't.

Without a doubt this is the loveliest spot you ever saw and much to my surprise I haven't been too hot yet. It just stays about 74 all the time except in the sun

[centre] 2. Its so far ahead of the West Indies that I saw, "it isn't even funny" - Of course Jamaica was lovely but hotter and you had to sleep after lunch, but here you can keep going all day. Its like lovely June weather with a nice breeze. They haven't had any rain for a month, most unusual, so things are pretty dry. Pete says we are due for a three day rain and he promises to illustrate my letter to you, so I'll write a real letter soon.

By the way I got all the extra books in my suitcase so you see they were no trouble at all. I do wish you could come and see it here. You would love it and the flowers are so lovely mostly as flowering shrubs and everyone is so happy and friendly.

[centre] 3. you can't help but feel friendly too. As you pass the people making and selling "leis" on the side walk they smile and wish you "good evening" as if th ey were old friends. We expect to be here about two weeks and then are taking a small cottage near a little hotel on Kauii. Everyone says its he loveliest island of all, but it's very quiet, which is what we want for painting. We have bought a car (which one must have to get around) its an open four passenger Ford, which has had good care, the engine newly overhauled at the a recommended Ford place and we can sell it back for two thirds of what we paid for it. It seems an excellent bet.
